Nintendo dropped the third trailer for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, which featured more voice scenes from our favorite characters. At the same time, it gave us more of a glimpse into the world of Hyrule and the epic return of Link. Fans also got to see tiny previews of upcoming gameplay features, as well as towns and locations that players will be able to explore in the game.
Ever since the trailers were released, fans have noticed that one of the characters sounded very familiar. While it’s no secret that voice actors change throughout each installment, Ganon’s newest voice led to fan speculation on who could be behind the character.
Who is voicing Ganon in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom?
During the February Nintendo Direct live stream, the second trailer for Tears of the Kingdom was released. The intro scene featured Ganon’s menacing speech about eliminating Hyrule. The third trailer continues to showcase Ganon’s threat and “the birth of his new world.” Fortunately, as the release date for the upcoming Legend of Zelda game gets closer, the voice actor behind the villain has finally revealed themselves.
Over on Twitter, Matthew Mercer has confirmed that he is the new voice of Ganon in Tears of the Kingdom and that he did his very best to do Ganon justice with his performance. He also revealed that he was a huge fan of Ganon to the point he once cosplayed the character in a decade-old web series.
If you don’t know who Mercer is, he is known for playing the DM in the Critical Role live stream. He is also notable for other roles, such as Jotaro Kujo in Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure, Falco in Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, Levi in Attack on Titan, and has provided additional voices in other projects like Akira, Call of Duty, and Miraculous Ladybug, just to name a few.
Fans have been speculating that Mercer was going to be the new voice of Ganon since the second trailer dropped, and it looks like they were correct. People congratulated the voice actor for getting the role and are looking forward to hearing more of his performance once The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is released on May 12, 2023.
