In what has essentially become a given in recent months, the free games being released to Xbox Live Gold members have been leaked ahead of Microsoft’s official announcement. The poster revealing the free games coming in May was posted on Reddit earlier today.

As you can see, Xbox One owners get Defence Grid 2 along with Costume Quest 2, while the Xbox 360 crowd get Grid 2 and Peggle.

The full details are below.

Xbox One

  • Defense Grid 2 – May 1-31
  • Costume Quest 2 – May 16-June 15

Xbox 360

  • Peggle – May 16-31
  • GRID 2 – May 1-15

So that’s that, folks. This month’s offering may not be very big on the triple-A front, but we can hardly complain, Microsoft’s been spoiling us for choice over the last couple of months. They made Sunset Overdrive, The Wolf Among Us, Dead Space and Saint’s Row IV entirely free for Gold members last month, and while the likes of Peggle and Defense Grid 2 are never going to give you as much long-lasting entertainment, they’re still free, and they’re both great fun.

Many will see Costume Quest 2 as this month’s star of the show, and rightly so, Double Fine Productions’ RPG is a fantastic follow-up to the original, released back in 2010.

Microsoft has yet to confirm May’s line-up themselves, but you can probably expect them to formally announce the titles by the end of the week.
