A sequel to the 2012 strategy-action game, XCOM 2 first made its debut via PC earlier this year – train your sights on our glowing review here – and since then, excitement for the console release has ballooned. The wait is over, though, and you can catch a glimpse of the strategic action that awaits up above.

Bearing the rather foreboding tagline ‘Join Us or Become Them’, Firaxis’ sequel takes place in a distant future where the secret paramilitary organization known as XCOM is forced to fight its way back from the brink. Someone has to step in and scupper those dastardly alien plans, after all. Priced at $59.99, XCOM 2 promises a fairly meaty experience across both PS4 and Xbox One, and in reflecting on the series’ evolution since its inception two decades ago, Lead Producer Garth DeAngelis took to PlayStation Blog, writing:

XCOM 2 sees more terrifying versions of the alien roster whose DNA has been spliced together with humans. The aliens are stronger and smarter. We also shifted the gameplay from the defensive, reactionary style seen in Enemy Unknown to a more offensive one where players are choosing when and how to attack the enemy.

What are you waiting for, commander? XCOM 2 is out now for PS4 and Xbox One. The only question now is, will you be fighting the good fight on console? Do let us know.
