10 Things We Love About The DC Extended Universe

Warner Brothers likely wasn't expecting their much-anticipated DC Extended Universe to be as controversial and divisive as it's proven to be. Starting with 2013's Man of Steel all the way up to last August's Suicide Squad, audience reactions have ranged from those who would stab these movies if they were a person to those would fight anyone to the death to defend Batman V Superman. Never before have audience members been so at odds with how they feel about a film universe, but is either side actually right?

4) The Excellent Soundtracks

Did anyone else’s head explode when Wonder Woman first showed up and her amazing theme started playing? If not, you have to admit that moment quadrupled in quality thanks to the inclusion of that killer guitar-led theme. The outstanding work of composers Hans Zimmer, Tom Holkenborg and Steven Price has allowed the music to stand out from beyond the background and mix perfectly with each given scene.

An oft-forgotten aspect of comic book movies, the soundtrack helps heighten each film to great heights if used properly. The soundtrack for Suicide Squad received praise for its catchy playlist, but the score remains the film’s most underrated aspect. In fact, the scores of all three DCEU films are rarely given any love, even though they’re extremely deserving of it.

Bruce Wayne losing his parents feels more devastating with “A Beautiful Lie” playing in the background. Superman’s sacrifice feels even more emotionally-resonant and powerful thanks to “This Is My World” playing simultaneously with the action. The soundtrack helps these prominent moments soar to new levels of effectiveness and helps strengthen the film in a way that many other comic book movies don’t even attempt. Here’s hoping WW and JL provide even more excellent tracks to play on repeat in the near future.
