12 Must-See Trailers From San Diego Comic-Con 2017

San Diego Comic-Con has become the go-to place for movie studios and TV networks to drop the latest trailers for their biggest upcoming shows and films. With thousands in attendance and such a massive global audience waiting for any developments to land online, it's the best time to advertise these pop culture icons and highly anticipated new projects. There were so many trailers that arrived over this past weekend that we wouldn't blame you if you missed some of them. Thankfully, we've compiled the best of the bunch in this handy little guide. While the previews released for the various Arrowverse shows, Marvel's The Gifted and Inhumans, Gotham, Game of Thrones, The LEGO Ninjago Movie and a few more were all fantastic, they unfortunately didn't make our list - but we just wanted to give them a special shoutout before we begin. With that out of the way, read on for the most exciting and internet-breaking trailers from San Diego Comic-Con 2017. Avengers: Infinity War UPDATE: This trailer has been removed at the request of the studio. At SDCC, Marvel dropped what we've all been waiting for so long to see - the first trailer for Avengers: Infinity War. Unfortunately, they didn't release the footage online, but a bootleg version quickly surfaced and as expected, has made its way around the internet rather quickly. Of course, this really isn't the best way to experience the trailer, but it's likely the only way we'll be able to for a while. So, if you're curious to see what's next for Earth's Mightiest Heroes, give it a watch up above. Even in poor quality, there's much to enjoy here. The opening with the Guardians encountering Thor. Peter Parker decked out in his new Spider-Man suit. Thanos finally proving how awesome he is. Bearded, Nomad Steve Rogers (and newly-blonde Black Widow). The list goes on..... Ideally, we'd be watching this in HD on the biggest screen we could find, but hey, at least we have some sort of version of it to enjoy. And with Thor: Ragnarok just around the corner now, we fully expect Marvel to officially release the Infinity War footage sooner rather than later. Bright Director David Ayer and Deadshot himself, Will Smith, have reunited after working together on 2016's Suicide Squad to bring us this intriguing urban fantasy from Netflix, due in December. Starring Smith as human cop Scott Ward and an unrecognizable Joel Edgerton as his Orc partner Nick Jakoby, Bright is set in an alternate world in which humans and creatures from folklore and fairy tales co-exist. The two unlikely partners will have to come together to protect an elfin woman (Noomi Rapace) who possesses a magic wand - described as a "nuclear weapon that grants wishes." The trailer suitably promises a film that's as crazy and fantastic as you'd hope, with an imaginative mix of buddy cop tropes and high fantasy. It clearly has the same visual style that Ayer brought to his last effort, but let's just hope that this one has a stronger narrative. Kingsman: The Golden Circle Watch out, James Bond, another spy franchise might be looking to steal your crown. Matthew Vaughn's Kingsman: The Golden Circle looks set to be another brilliantly anarchic entry into the secret agent genre and a worthy follow-up to the 2014 original. This second trailer for the movie gives us a better look at the plot from the previous teaser. Set to a cover of The Who's "My Generation," we learn that Julianne Moore's villainous Poppy is the reason for the destruction of the Kingsmen. The trailer also gives us more time with the Kingsmen's American cousins, the Statesmen - as played by Jeff Bridges, Channing Tatum, Halle Berry and Pedro Pascal. Most teasingly of all, Colin Firth appears again as the resurrected Harry Hart, who somehow survived his apparent death in the first movie. We'll finally find out just how he did that when Kingsman arrives on September 29th. Doctor Who One of the last trailers to drop from SDCC was our first look at the Doctor Who Christmas special. Titled "Twice Upon A Time," it's a major yuletide episode this year for many reasons. Firstly, it'll see Peter Capaldi bow out of the show, with Jodie Whittaker taking over as the first female Doctor by the end. Before he goes though, the Twelfth Doctor will unite with the First Doctor (Harry Potter's David Bradley) for one last adventure. It's a brilliant idea that looks like it's going to bring the Doctor's story full circle, and we can't wait to see how it all plays out. There are a few more treats here for fans as well. Longtime friend to Doctor Who Mark Gatiss is appearing as a WWI soldier who's apparently "resonant" to the show's history, while Pearl Mackie is returning for her last appearance as popular companion Bill Potts. As such, we expect lots of heart, humour and tears when the episode airs on December 25th. The Defenders We're less than a month away now from the release of Marvel's The Defenders on Netflix. The long-awaited eight-part series has been in the works for years and fans have slowly been introduced to the quartet of street-wise superheroes in their own solo series since 2015. Ahead of being dropped on the streaming service on August 18th, then, we have one more trailer to get us salivating. This preview gives us some more classic superhero banter between the uneasy super-friends - Daredevil (Charlie Cox), Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter), Luke Cage (Mike Colter) and Iron Fist (Finn Jones) - while on the dark side, we have our best look yet at Sigourney Weaver as uber-villainess Alexandra, who has taken the resurrected, amnesiac Elektra - AKA The Hand's Black Sky - under her wing. Reviews have been a bit mixed so far, but we're still hoping that The Defenders is an epic conclusion to the storyline that's been built up over hours and hours of television over the past few years. Westworld The second season of HBO's sci-fi western smash-hit Westworld has only just begun filming this month, but they already had enough in the can to give us this tantalizing teaser for what's to come when the show returns in 2018. Following on from the explosive events of the season 1 finale, this new trailer teases a much different Westworld park from the one we last saw. It was always a violent place, but now there are literally corpses everywhere, as the rogue Dolores is setting out to wipe out all humans in her path. There are lots of questions to ponder as well: has Bernard been fixed up? Does he still know he's a Host? With the bar set very high, and without Anthony Hopkins to hold it all together, it'll be tough to beat the sophomore slump, but something tells us that showrunners Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy will manage to pull it off. Star Trek Discovery Trekkies, rejoice! The first Star Trek TV show to air in ten years is right around the corner. While the project has been delayed numerous times and fallen victim to lots of behind the scenes musical chairs, we have hope that Star Trek Discovery will deliver just what fans have been asking for for a decade now. Teasing an ominous atmosphere, this Discovery trailer gives a look at all the show's major players: from Sonequa Martin-Green's lead to Michelle Yeoh's kickass captain to Doug Jones' alien Saru and more. We also learn that the crew of the U.S.S. Discovery are caught in the middle of a conflict with the Klingons. Some fans might grumble over this and that, but ultimately, Discovery looks promising, especially thanks to its talented, diverse cast. Ready Player One SDCC gave us our first glimpse at Steven Spielberg's latest project, and fans were thrilled with what they saw. Based on Ernest Cline's best-selling novel, Ready Player One is a big ol' love letter to the 80s and looks to be a treasure trove of references to many geek favourites. The movie stars X-Men: Apocalypse's Tye Sheridan as Wade Watts, who's one of the many teens in this version of the future who spend all their time in the expansive virtual reality world known as the OASIS. This first trailer teases a visual spectacle, using the same kind of state-of-the-art CGI that made Spielberg's The BFG pop out of the screen. Plus, there are tons of fan-pleasing crossovers and cameos that are sure to excite those who grew up in the 80s or know their pop culture well. Cline's novel has been described as "Willy Wonka meets The Matrix," so be prepared to enter a world of pure imagination when the movie arrives on March 30th. The Walking Dead After an uneven season 7, fans of AMC's zombie drama will be hoping that The Walking Dead can get its groove back with its next outing. Thankfully, this extra-long five minute Comic-Con trailer promises that the "All-Out War" arc will be just the punch in the arm the show needs. After uniting the various communities under their common hatred of Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) will lead the assembled apocalyptic survivors against the Saviors - but who's going to make it out alive? That's the big question on everyone's minds. There are a lot of awesome moments packed into the trailer above, hinting that just about all of the characters (Maggie, Daryl, Carol, etc.) will get some great material. Most of all, there's that shocking ending involving Old Man Rick - suggesting that the show will follow on from the comics and jump forward two years at some point. It all looks pretty promising, and we'll see for ourselves if the new season can live up to the hype when The Walking Dead returns on October 22nd. Stranger Things It's close to midnight and something evil's lurking in the dark... Yes, we're back in Hawkins once again for the second season of Stranger Things. The nostalgic Netflix series became a mega-hit when it arrived last year, and thankfully, this trailer convinces us that the mix of 80s culture and sci-fi/horror that we loved the first time around will be present and correct in season 2. With the perfect song choice of Michael Jackson's "Thriller" playing over the top (can Vincent Price narrate every episode?), the trailer teases some troubled times for Will Byers lying ahead as his experience in the Upside-Down comes back to haunt him. Brilliantly, it looks like the gang will get to play Ghostbusters for real, while Eleven is going to find her way back to our world - shocker! - but is everything as it seems? We'll find out when Stranger Things season 2 lands on Netflix this Halloween. Thor: Ragnarok The previous two Thor movies are usually considered to be amongst the worst MCU efforts, but things could well change with Thor: Ragnarok. With talented indie/comedy director Taika Waititi on board, it looks to be the funniest Marvel film outside of the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise. Not to mention also one of the most stylistically unique and exciting. This second trailer build on the first by unveiling some previously unknown story points. While the first preview looked like it was setting up a buddy movie between Thor and Hulk set on the planet Sakaar, this one teases that the God of Thunder will create his own team - including Valkyrie and even his trickster brother Loki - in order to stop Cate Blanchett's awesomely evil villainess Hela, the Goddess of the Underworld, from taking over Asgard. We'll see if the move is as thunderous as we hope when it lands on November 3rd. Justice League Also dropping in November is the movie DC fans have been waiting for forever - the actual dawn of the Justice League. It's no secret that there've been lots of contradictory rumours about the state of the film and what's going on behind the scenes, but the trailers themselves have been unfailingly exciting. This third glimpse at the blockbuster offers our best look yet at the tentpole. For the first time, we get to see - albeit with his face unseen - the film's villain, General Steppenwolf. There's also some gorgeous visuals that promise another cinematic treat from the DC Extended Universe. Plus, some extra fun moments with characters like Ezra Miller's Flash and Jeremy Irons as Alfred prove that the humor and lightheartedness found in Wonder Woman will be present here as well. Batman, Aquaman, Cyborg and the rest will finally unite when Justice League crashes into theatres on November 19th.
