5 Burning Questions That Alien: Covenant’s Possible Sequel Needs To Answer

1) What Is David’s Master Plan?

David was easily the most fascinating character in Alien: Covenant (characterization was generally not the film’s forte). His relationship with his “brother” Walter in particular was undeniably the central glue that helped hold the film together. But what actually is David’s master plan? And why did he choose to eradicate the Engineer’s city?

The god complex theme continues to permeate much of Prometheus’ sequel and this is manifested in much of David’s strange, abnormal behaviour. Throughout the movie, he sees himself as superior to his creators (subtly and cleverly depicted in the short flashback opening with unfeasibly rich billionaire Peter Weyland). But does he see himself as a superior being to the Engineers, too? His decision to destroy a whole Engineer civilization with the mysterious black goo sure makes it look like so. Maybe he’s just enjoying the power of being a new, almighty god.

What we also know is that David has control of the USSC Covenant along with 2000 embryos, a couple of survivors and a duo of baby face-huggers (they’re so cuuute, ahem). Where’s he going to be plotting a course to next? Earth? LV-426? LV-223? Another Engineer home-planet? It’s tricky to say at this point, but it sure was a massive cliffhanger to end the movie with. Both David and the audience deserve a rewarding conclusion to Alien: Covenant’s mighty cliffhanger and revealing his master plan could be the key in providing that feeling of satisfaction.
