5 More Star Wars Characters That Deserve Spin-Off Films

The rumours are swirling about Lawrence Kasdan and Simon Kinberg writing stand-alone films for the Star Wars universe, prompting some to believe the ultimate goal of Disney is to follow the Marvel formula and eventually release 2-3 films a year set a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away.

Obi-Wan Kenobi

The story of Obi-Wan Kenobi is as depressing as they come in the Star Wars world. Sure, when Anakin went bad it destroyed Padme, but she died right after, so it’s not like she had to suffer with what her husband had done for long. On the other hand, Obi-Wan not only had to see his best friend and Padawan turn to the dark side, but he had to chop off his legs in the process. Say what you want about the prequel films, but the pain in Obi’s voice and eyes as he has to cut Anakin down gets me every time.

But after Anakin has been destroyed, or so we briefly think, Obi has to move to Tatooine, change his name (kind of), and watch over a young Luke Skywalker from a distance. But what did he do for all those years in the desolation of that desert planet? We need a movie to step in and fill the gaps between Episode III and Episode IV.

I want to see a movie chronicling everything he did in waiting. He was a Jedi master, and one of the last ones left, so it’s safe to assume that he made some pretty awesome discoveries in that time. Somehow he learned the ways of living after death, at least enough to speak to Luke later on. He became very strong with the force, and it’d be amazing to see his development when he was in hiding keeping Luke safe.

The biggest plus side to this movie is there’d be no need to recast. Ewan McGregor is still alive and still looks relatively the same. This film would be the perfect way to connect the Disney movies to the previous trilogies.
