3) The Film’s Rating Raises Some Red Flags
Honestly, I’m a bit concerned with Deadpool‘s rating. I’m worried it may be there just so that Fox and the director can put as many curse-words and gory money shots in the film as possible. Sadly, we live in an age of cinema where some people honestly think that more blood, violence and cursing equates to a good movie, when that isn’t the case at all.
Deadpool is a character who can honestly make it as an interesting subject to watch without have gratuitous amounts of blood spun everywhere as he goes on a rampage. Honestly, it wasn’t until Marvel NOW that I as a comic book reader noticed how graphic Deadpool’s solo series was. Until then, the Deadpool comics I read weren’t gore-fests. But from the looks of the trailer, a gore-fest may be the exact route Fox is taking with this movie.
And honestly, when you think about it, there are actually some directors who believe chalking a movie full of blood and foul-language automatically makes it a good movie because of how “edgy” it is, and that is far from the truth. Look at the Saw movies as a prime example. They are nothing but films about dismembered body-parts, and they aren’t exactly great.
But then you look at a movie like Jack Reacher, which was an exuberant action thriller and honestly had no blood in it from what I recall. I’m all for an R rating here, I just hope that Deadpool doesn’t try to out-do Saw.
