7 Actors Who Should Be Cast In DC’s Standalone Films And Who They Should Portray

As we're sure you're all aware by now, the DCEU – or whatever it should be called – will still exist after Justice League, but the filmmakers will be allowed to experiment more with standalone outings. While the Joker origin movie is gearing up to be the first in this new line of DC projects, there's a lot of chatter that Matt Reeves' The Batman will also be set early on in the Caped Crusader's crime-fighting career.

Billy Zane (Lex Luthor)

To say Jesse Eisenberg’s Lex Luthor (or should we say Alexander Luthor Jr.) was divisive in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice is putting it lightly. However, with the possibility of these standalones, there’s the chance to subtly introduce Lex Luthor Sr. – even if it’s through the use of flashbacks or an event set in the past, considering that the character is supposedly dead in DCEU continuity. Hell, maybe even as the Lex Luthor of Superman: Red Son.

The logical choice here is for DC/Warner Bros. to do what they should have done in the first place: cast Billy Zane as Lex Luthor. While most people will shout Bryan Cranston’s name from the rooftops, we think that Zane oozes pure Luthor-isms in so many ways (and not just because of the shared chrome-dome). Seriously, has anyone else noticed how he looks identical to the version of the character from the DC animated universe?

The world needs more of Zane and his brilliance, and we can’t think of a better character for him to sink his teeth into than Lex Luthor. It’s a no-brainer, really.
