Red-Headed Natasha
We’ve known for a while, thanks to concept art, that both Captain America and Black Widow – the last of the Secret Avengers team that have operated in the shadows since Civil War – will return to their classic looks in Endgame. The previous trailers gave us a clean-shaven Cap and a Natasha who had grown out her blonde hair, but she still hadn’t returned to her natural hair color. This trailer shows us that she’ll be a redhead again for most of the film, though.
So let’s try and put the timeline together. Nat’s hair has grown out by the time she meets Clint in Japan but she’s still blonde. The same is true of the scene where she’s doing some target practice. However, by the time the Avengers actually go back into the fray, the classic agent Romanoff is back.
Going by this, we can also say that Cap’s “Not us” speech, first glimpsed in the TV spot, happens just before they decide to take action. Here we get to hear the whole of it. “I keep telling everybody they should move on, someday,” he tells his team. “But not us.” It seems he’s had enough of holding those group therapy meetings and has made up his mind that something needs to be done.
Presumably, Nat speaks for everyone when she says: “Even if there’s just a small chance, we owe this to everyone who’s not in this room to try.”
Scott Returns To A Changed World
In the first Endgame trailer, Ant-Man’s return to the world after being trapped in the Quantum Realm – in the Ant-Man and the Wasp post-credits scene, keep up! – was portrayed as a bit of comic relief. A brief clip in this trailer, however, shows how horrifying it must have been for Scott Lang to find himself in a much changed universe.
A dialogue-free scene shows him in a very overgrown patch of his native San Francisco, as he stares incredulously at a lamppost covered with “missing” posters. We’re guessing this is how he finds out that half of the planet’s population has gone missing since he’s been in another dimension. We know from the first trailer that he soon heads to the Avengers facility to find out what’s going on.
Scott stars in another fascinating moment later on, too, as we see him shrunk down to ant-size and leaping into action. It’s hard to tell where he is, but the pencil he uses as a pole-vault suggests it’s a domestic environment, even though it’s on fire and appears to be flooded. If anyone’s got any ideas what’s happening here, feel free to share your thoughts.
