A Familiar Medal
From this point on, things get really nostalgic as the trailer throws a lot of familiar stuff at us we weren’t expecting. First up, one brief shot sees what we can infer to be Leia’s hand holding a golden medal. Fans should recognize this as one of the medals given to Luke and Han by Leia herself after the Battle of Yavin in A New Hope.
We don’t know the context of this scene, but the callback to the saga’s first film is a perfect way to bring the franchise full circle and to show how much Leia’s life has changed since the day she presented these medals to her brother and the man she would go on to have a son with.
At the same time, it’s also a symbol of hope. If her generation managed to defeat evil against unimaginable odds and earn this trinket then the next generation of freedom fighters can do the same. Or maybe it’s just a nostalgic shot of an old prop and I’m reading too much into it?
