9 Superhero Movies From The 1990s That You Should Revisit

We're enjoying such a glut of superhero films right now - with everything from cinematic mainstays like Batman and Spider-Man to lesser-known properties like Suicide Squad and Doctor Strange. As such, it's hard to remember the less-populated years of the 1990s, where putting a costumed crusader in your movie wasn’t a surefire success.

Before Disney got their hands on Marvel, the House of Mouse’s first dip into the superhero genre was this adaptation of Dave Stevens’ comic character – The Rocketeer.

When pilot Cliff Secord (Bill Campbell) finds a prototype jetpack invented by Howard Hughes, he uses it to save his girlfriend (Jennifer Connelly) from a Post-Bond Timothy Dalton as the Errol Flynn-esque Nazi sympathizer/Hollywood star Neville Sinclair. The result is a bright and good-natured throwback to old time-y movie serials, in a similar way to Indiana Jones.

Directed by Joe Johnston, this ode to the Golden Age of Hollywood shares a lot of similarities with his later work Captain America: The First Avenger. So if you like that one, make sure to take this film for a test flight as well.
