Universal has released a new 90-second TV trailer (below) for Les Misérables, the upcoming epic musical from Academy Award winning director Tom Hooper (The King’s Speech).
The trailer features Anne Hathaway, in her role as Fantine, singing the beloved song “I Dreamed a Dream” over images from the film, which also stars Hugh Jackman (as Jean Valjean), Russell Crowe (Inspector Javert), and Amanda Seyfried (Cosette).
This trailer doesn’t really feature any images we haven’t already seen in the teaser trailer or the recent sneak peak, but the combination of Hathaway’s singing and these captivating images from the film makes for an exciting clip. No word yet on when the second trailer will be released, or if it will feature as-yet unseen clips (or unheard songs), but we’ll let you know when we hear more.
It will be interesting to see the reception which Les Misérables receives upon its release. The last big attempt to adapt a popular 1980′s Broadway musical to the screen, Joel Schumacher’s The Phantom of the Opera from 2004, met with mixed reviews and came up empty handed at the Oscars.
Still, this adaptation of Les Misérables has an impressive array of talents at work both in front and behind of the camera, so fans have good reason to be optimistic.
Les Misérables will be released on December 25. Then, exactly one year later, moms across America will receive a copy of the film on Blu-Ray as a Christmas gift from their sons.
