They may not be directly involved anymore, but the reboot of Ben Affleck and Matt Damon’s Project Greenlight series has already launched a feature film to the upper echelons of the streaming charts, although Gray Matter doesn’t exactly come highly recommended.
Per FlixPatrol, the ambitious sci-fi thriller instantly debuted as the third most-watched movie among Max subscribers in the United States, with the promise of a high concept genre-bending adventure clearly influencing users a great deal more than the positive reviews, of which there have been none so far.
On Rotten Tomatoes, director Meko Winbush’s family drama wrapped in a cloak of supernatural subterfuge is still stuck on a zero percent approval rating, although a current audience average of 84 percent does paint the picture of critics potentially being a little too harsh on the film.
Either way, a 4.7/10 score on IMDb is still no great shakes, so the jury definitely remains out on whether or not Gray Matter can justifiably be called trash or treasure. The story finds Mia Isaac’s Aurora being told by her mother throughout her entire existence that the powers they possess also make them infinitely dangerous, and targets for all sorts of nefarious adversaries who’d love to get their hands on the duo.
Naturally, one night changes everything forever after discovering once and for all if her mom really was telling the truth, as she gets to grips with the true and unfettered consequences of the powers she’s been told to intentionally limit since day one.
