We’ve been documenting its development for nigh on two years at this point, as both parties slowly massaged its high-profile reboot into shape. Now, today’s trailer acts as the culmination of that journey – and it’s about to set a new one in motion.

Charting the defining adventures of Finn, Rey and X-Wing pilot Poe Dameron – John Boyega, Daisy Ridley and Oscar Isaac, respectively – the clip showcases the ways in which they pull together before locking horns with Kylo Ren and the nefarious First Order. Imposing a new totalitarian regime on the galaxy and its people, our aforementioned trio of heroes form part of the Resistance, a ragtag group eager to topple this power-mongering military junta – one which is essentially channeling the spirit of the Empire and, in particular, Darth Vader.

Indeed, it is Adam Driver’s Kylo Ren that is said to harbor a deep connection with the fallen galactic menace, viewing Vader as more of a noble martyr than the Nazi-styled supervillain we all know and fear. But how will this lore filter into The Force Awakens? We’re now only two months away from finding that answer.

At long last, J.J. Abrams’ Star Wars: The Force Awakens will cruise into theaters on December 18. In the meantime, share your thoughts on the stellar final trailer using the comments below.
