A raucous crime caper rekindles an old flame to pull off a daring heist on Netflix

Being around your ex is awkward, especially if you're planning a heist.

The humble heist caper is always a cinematic subgenre worth checking out, and despite its unlucky position on the streaming service’s viewership charts, last year’s crime comedy Partners in Crime has proven itself to be anything but cursed.

Per FlixPatrol, the Filipino con caper has debuted as the 13th most-watched movie on the platform’s global rankings after bagging a cavalcade of Top 10 finishes in numerous countries, and it can’t be counted out that the lighthearted romp could end up climbing even higher as the week progresses seeing as it’s only the first day of the latest seven.

Local superstars Vice Ganda and Ivana Alawi play Jack and Barbara, a former couple who end up encountering each other under their new position as sworn enemies. However, the former partners are forced to team up in an entirely different manner when they get caught up in a daring plot that finds them forced to work together under the most unlikely and unexpected of circumstances.

Originally planned as the third installment in the massively successful Praybeyt Benjamin franchise – of which Ganda headlined the first two installments – plans failed to materialize, which led to the multi-hyphenate entertainer buddying up with actress, model, YouTuber, and business mogul Alawi for a completely fresh project instead.

Partners in Crime was the end result, and based on how it’s been faring among subscribers all over the globe since premiering on Netflix, it might not even be the last time the dynamic duo cross paths in the world of film.
