A Stephen King-approved horror with a perfect 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes finally edges toward a release date 7 months after premiering

It basically markets itself at this point.

Horror is one of the most easily marketable and consistently bankable genres around, so it’s baffling that an acclaimed chiller with a perfect Rotten Tomatoes score and the seal of approval from Stephen King remains without a release date, but Late Night with the Devil is on the cusp of changing that.

Starring the always-excellent David Dastmalchian in a rare lead role, co-writers and co-directors Colin and Cameron Cairnes take a meta approach with their period piece set in 1977, with a small screen host in need of a ratings boost setting up a Halloween special featuring a magician, a skeptic, and somebody who claims to have been possessed to the devil.

It sounds like the setup to a bad joke, but seeing as Late Night with the Devil maintains a 100 percent approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes with 34 reviews in the bag and got the thumbs-up from one of horror’s most legendary voices, it’s clearly anything but. It’s been a long time since it was first screened at SXSW back in March, but movement is now happening that puts a long-awaited debut in the crosshairs.

Per Deadline, AGC International has secured the international distribution rights, while the domestic rights will be heading to the American Film Market shortly. Based on the buzz alone, Late Night with the Devil has been on a lot of radars for a long time, but it looks as though the wait could almost be over.

Stephen King’s endorsement + David Dastmalchian + rave reviews? What’s not to love?
