Marvel’s recent releases have put the MCU under heavy fire for bad writing, however, there are some things the audience is still excited to see from the studio. One of those things is how Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will delve into the emotional aftermath of the events of Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame. As fans will recall, Peter Quill and Gamora’s romance took a sharp left toward the end of the Infinity Saga, but not everyone got the memo of how much this impacts the story.
Over on Reddit, a fan suggested that getting Gamora and Peter’s relationship to where it was before those tragic events can be easily fixed. In their opinion, the solution would be to have Mantis touch them both and use her powers to help Gamora recall past memories.
Some fans were quick to turn this suggestion down, explaining their reasoning for such. While this might’ve made for a shorter film, it would make little sense for the MCU to take that direction. What some fail to understand, however, is that the Gamora fans will see in the third Guardians film is not the same one the audience grew used to. That version of her died in Infinity War, meaning it would be impossible for Mantis to make this Gamora remember someone she never was.
Even if Marvel attempted to take this shortcut by using the magic of cinema, there’s no doubt that it would dampen the impact of the situation. With the Guardians threequel shouldering the pressure to restore the MCU, it would be ill-advised for the movie to take this approach, but who knows? Marvel has made questionable choices in the past.
Catch Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 in U.S. theaters starting May 5.
