Prehistoric comedy Early Man, the latest stop-motion effort from Studiocanal and the creative minds at Aardman, has officially entered production and to celebrate, both studios have lifted the lid on the delightful first teaser for Nick Park’s upcoming feature.
Whisking moviegoers back to the dawn of time, Early Man places Fantastic Beasts star Eddie Redmayne in the role of Dug, a plucky – if slightly clumsy – caveman who works to create a sense of unity among his tribe right around the advent of the Bronze Age. He won’t do so alone though, as loyal sidekick Hognob is along for the ride, one which will seemingly involve giant woolly mammoths and dinosaurs, with today’s sneak peek hinting at an oncoming T-Rex. For all of Dug’s courage, we’re guessing a primitive spear won’t be much use against a towering dino.
A hot-seller at last year’s Cannes, Nick Park’s prehistoric comedy represents a reunion between Studiocanal and Aardman following the successful Shaun The Sheep Movie. Park, meanwhile, has developed knack for all things stop-motion since overseeing Wallace And Gromit: The Curse Of The Were Rabbit at the studio.
Set at the dawn of time, when prehistoric creatures and woolly mammoths roamed the earth, Early Man tells the story of how plucky caveman Dug, along with sidekick Hognob, unites his tribe against the mighty Bronze Age in a battle to beat them at their own game. It also marks Nick Park’s first feature film since the Academy Award-winning Wallace and Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit. Early Man unleashes an unforgettable cast of hilarious new characters.
The cameras, they are a-rolling on the prehistoric set of Early Man. Look for Nick Park’s stop-motion romp to open in the UK on January 26, 2018, in France on January 31, 2018, and Germany and Australia/NZ on March 29, 2018. Further release plans will likely emerge at a later date, so stay tuned.
