Thanks to the enormously positive reception to Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse — and that’s putting it mildly — Sony’s animated Spider-Verse franchise is now two for two after 2018’s Oscar-winning Into the Spider-Verse. But just to prove that no movie is literally 100 percent perfect, a shocking realization is sweeping the fandom after one Twitter user innocently pointed out that the saga’s central character dynamic is actually built on a pretty hefty plot hole.
As those who’ve seen both films will know, Miles Morales and the other Spider-People that cross universes are prone to painful glitches as their bodies clash with the reality they don’t belong in. Across the Spider-Verse doubles down on this by making it clear that only those wearing one of Miguel O’Hara’s handy watches can avoid this. So… how did Gwen attend Miles’ school on Earth-1610 for a whole week without a single glitch? As @superherotalk18 pointed out:
The OP went on to clarify that they weren’t hating on the movie — far from it — but they just wanted to make clear that one plot hole doesn’t make something bad. For example, problems with the logic consistency of Spider-Man: No Way Home have recently seen that film’s reputation tank.
Naturally, fans scrambled to find an explanation for Gwen’s resistance to the glitches, but what’s stated in the movie is hard to get around.
Even the argument that she just glitched off-screen doesn’t really hold up, given that they are random attacks.
The only possible explanation? “She paused glitching because she’s Hailee Steinfeld.”
