Adam Driver Doesn’t Think Star Wars: Episode VIII Should Get A Trailer

Fans were hoping they might see some kind of teaser for Rian Johnson's still untitled Star Wars: Episode VIII with Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, but that doesn't look very likely at this point. Of course, as soon as the hype for Gareth Edwards' prequel film dies down a bit, Disney and Lucasfilm will be turning their attention to the direct follow-up to The Force Awakens, and a first glimpse of some footage should't be too far off. However, if one of the returning stars from that movie had his way, we wouldn't get to see a trailer at all.

During an interview with Cinema Blend to promote his new movie Silence, Kylo Ren actor Adam Driver – when prompted by the website – agreed that it’d be best if the the studio didn’t release a trailer for Episode VIII:

I think that’d be bold. I’d love it, yeah! Then no one would know anything. The less people know, I feel like, the more exciting… the more of an event it is.

There’s certainly some truth to that – especially in the current climate when trailers and TV spots tend to spoil so many plot points and character moments ahead of release – but at the end of the day, there’s no way a major studio tentpole will ever hit a theatre without at least a couple of trailers to get audiences hyped.

What do you think, though? Would the fans be better served by Star Wars: Episode VIII being released without a trailer? Or are you looking forward to getting an idea of what to expect from the movie before seeing it? Drop us a comment below with your thoughts!
