Adam McKay Might Direct Something In The Marvel Universe

Let's face it: before long, every working director, writer, and actor will have done something for either a Marvel or a DC film; maybe even both. The only ones to escape will be the Old Guard of Scorsese, Coppola, Spielberg, and Lucas (though I wonder about Spielberg). Following in the footsteps of Whedon, it seems hardly surprising that now Adam McKay is circling a potential directing gig with Marvel.

Let’s face it: before long, every working director, writer, and actor will have done something for either a Marvel or a DC film; maybe even both. The only ones to escape will be the Old Guard of Scorsese, Coppola, Spielberg, and Lucas (though I wonder about Spielberg). Following in the footsteps of Whedon, it seems hardly surprising that now Adam McKay is circling a potential directing gig with Marvel.

According to CraveOnline (via Coming Soon), McKay is currently in talks with the studio about directing a project for them. Though it’s not yet been established what character, group of characters, or sequel he might be taking on, there’s a good chance that the Anchorman director will jump into the MCU before much more time has passed.

Here’s what McKay had to say about it:

[I] had such a great time working with them,” he says, “that we’re kicking around ideas. But yeah, maybe I would take on one of the characters. We haven’t locked in anything, but discussions are definitely going on.

It’s not like the director is a stranger around Marvel Studios, either. Remember that he was involved in rewriting the Ant-Man script, alongside star Paul Rudd. It’s really just a logical step from there to directing a Marvel movie.

Of course, now the question becomes which project will McKay take on? He’s hardly known as a hardcore action director (The Other Guys notwithstanding), but then again, Marvel’s films tend to veer more towards the comedic than the dark introspection of superheroes, so perhaps he will fit right in.

McKay is currently at work on The Big Short, about the housing and credit bubble of the 2000s, so it’s unlikely that we’ll see him joining back up with Marvel for a little while yet. Still, there are plenty of projects he’ll have to choose from. After all, Marvel plans to continue inundating our screens with their ever-growing universe until we beg them to stop. Given the excitement surrounding the recent Avengers: Age of Ultron trailer, that’s not going to happen any time soon.

We’ll keep you updated on Adam McKay‘s Marvel-ous future as soon as we hear anything new, but in the meantime, tell us which film you’d like to see him tackle for the studio.
