MGM is currently in negotiations with the good folks at BermanBraun (Gail Berman and Lloyd Braun) to bring back The Addams Family. Pamela Pettler, who has plenty of experience with family-friendly horror in the form of Corpse Bride and Monster House, is pegged to write the screenplay for the animated film.
Despite the fact that The Addams Family is probably the archetypical Tim Burton project, being creepy and kooky, mysterious and spooky, and altogether ooky – the director will not be involved in this adaptation. He was actually working on developing his own Addams Family film not too long ago, but that seems to have fallen through.
It might be that he’s too busy, given that he’s prepping the distinctly un-Burton Big Eyes, his upcoming biopic of American artist Walter Keane. Maybe he’s branching out and going for something different, who knows? Either way, Burton will unfortunately not be involved in this adaptation.
It’s still way too early to tell how this one will turn out but whatever happens with The Addams Family, the franchise has proven beyond a doubt that cinemagoers of all ages lap up the dark fun that the family offers. Hopefully MGM treats this one right.
At this time there is no further news regarding cast or crew, or musical direction for that matter – music being one of the most important aspects of the series as a whole.
With that in mind, here’s “Addams Groove,” by MC Hammer. Enjoy!
