If there was one major takeaway from last week’s third (and final) trailer for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, it’s thatĀ there are many, many facets to Gareth Edwards’ upcoming rebellion.
First and foremost, there’s the rebellion itself, as Mon Mothma et al. pull together the necessary resources to nick schematics to the Death Star – the WMD to end all WMDs – then there’s the dynamic between Jyn and her wayward father, Galen Erso (Mads Mikkelsen).
Confirming early reports to be true, late last week we got a glimpse of Galen’s relationship with the young Jyn just before he comes into contact with the Galactic Empire andĀ Ben Mendelsohn’s all-powerfulĀ Director Orson Krennic. But there are more layers to the story; Mikkelsen has now revealed to GQ (thanks, /Film) that Rogue One will check in on Felicity Jones’ heroine during two crucial stages of her troubled upbringing.
It’s a relationship that will likely play out via flashbacks, with Mikkelsen revealing that, “I worked a few days with Felicity Jones and she is a wonderful actress. I worked with Jyn at three stages, and three different ages, so there was a little kid that was four, one that was eight, and then there was Felicity. So that was wonderful. I spent a lot of time with Ben Mendelsohn and that was hilarious. Heās a very funny man and he makes the day just fly by.”
Now under two months from its release, rumors and speculation are rife about some of the lingering secrets of Rogue One. Gareth Edwards has stepped into debunk one, though, and it involvesĀ Alistair Petrie’s Rebel leader.
āHis nameās General Draven.Ā Itās no official secret. Sometimes I read stuff online like itās this big thing thatās been leaked, and I thought, āOh, I thought people knew that.āā
Come December 16, the legacy of Disney’s rejuvenated juggernaut will expand in new and hopefully exciting directions with the release of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Below you’ll findĀ the first batch of character posters to pour over.
