Ahead of the film’s limited release in theatres on October 10th, Focus World has released a trailer for the eagerly anticipated documentary, I Am Ali.
Promising an unprecedented look at the man behind the legend, the film is a product of the Oscar-winning talent behind 2012’s excellent Searching For Sugar Man and is essentially built around pre-recorded voice messages from the Muhammad Ali himself.
Speaking about I Am Ali, executive producer John Battesk spoke of the passion behind the project, which is set to condense the remarkable life of the world’s greatest boxer.
“It’s a film built around phone conversations that Ali recorded for many years with his family,” he said. “That’s the spine of the film. It’s a very personal perspective on Ali, from Ali – in a way – through a 20-year period of his life when he was still fighting.”
In charting Ali’s rise to a legend, the documentary will include snippets of family members alongside interviews with fellow sportsmen Mike Tyson, Gene Kilroy and George Foreman.
While the prized fighter was no doubt held up as one of the best the sport has produced, it’ll be interesting to see how the documentary handles the early stages of the heavyweight’s career, where he was often described as a polarizing figure both inside and out of the ring.
I Am Ali will release across Digital HD, On Demand and in Theatres on October 10th, 2014.
