Such is the gravity of post-production and CGI work on Hollywood’s marquee releases, that some of 2017’s biggest releases are already beginning to wrap filming. Just yesterday, we brought you the news that The Mummy, Universal’s modern redo of the cult supernatural thriller, had completed principal photography in London and now, Ridley Scott’s Alien: Covenant will join it in post.

That’s according to the ever-active Alien Anthology Twitter feed (thanks, Collider), which has also unearthed what is surely the final set photo of Covenant, spotlighting Ridley Scott opposite Inherent Vice breakout Katherine Waterston.

Joining a crew of spacefaring explorers that comprises Billy Crudup, Demián Bichir, Carmen Ejogo, Jussie Smollett, Amy Seimetz and Danny McBride as the vessel’s captain, details remain few and far between regarding Alien: Covenant‘s plot, let alone Waterston’s role in it.

What we do know is that the sequel formerly known as Prometheus 2 picks up long after the doomed Prometheus voyage, and that fresh-faced crew will stumble upon a idyllic planet that is masking a dark and dangerous secret (Engineers, perhaps?). Despite reports to the contrary, Noomi Rapace returns alongside her capricious synthetic partner David, brought to life in wonderfully eerie fashion by Michael Fassbender.

2017 also marks a defining year for Ridley Scott’s blend of sci-fi, with both Blade Runner 2 and Alien: Covenant looming on the horizon. The latter arrives in theaters on August 4, 2017.
