After an impressive $7.5 million midnight opening, The Amazing Spider-Man continued to swing through box office records by bringing in an incredible $35 million. Deadline is reporting that some rival studios are putting the number somewhere closer to $32 million but either way, that’s great news for Sony.
The film has set a new domestic record for the highest opening on a Tuesday and beat out the previous record holder, Transformers, which brought in $27.8 million, though that film didn’t have 3D.
No one ever expected the film to perform poorly, but still, these numbers are very impressive and the film should have no trouble swinging past the $100 million mark by the end of the week.
So, now the question on everyone’s mind is, will Spider beat out The Avengers? What about The Dark Knight Rises? Who will reign over the box office this summer?
Though Marvel’s mightiest heroes hold the lead, Spider-Man and the Caped Crusader are both going to make a legitimate push to take the crown from Tony Stark and company.
Will either succeed? What do you think?
