The American Pie crew is back, all of them, in the sequel American Reunion. Universal Pictures have spent the last decade abusing the word American in relation to the original American Pie. They’ve done so by spinning of a series of direct to DVD movies that have rendered this series as a less appealing modern Porky’s.
That said, seeing Jason Biggs and Alyson Hannigan as Jim and Michelle again in this new redband trailer does bring back a little bit of the goodwill forged through the three theatrical Pie movies.
Not seen in this redband trailer for American Reunion but also returning to the series are Chris Klein as Oz, Thomas Ian Nicholas as Kevin, Eddie Kaye Thomas as Finch, Tara Reid as Victoria, Seann William Scott as Stifler, Mena Suvari as Heather and Shannon Elizabeth as Nadia.
Not returning this time is the writing and directing team of Chris and Paul Weitz. In their place is a new directing team, Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg, the team that brought us the Harold and Kumar movies, including November’s A Very Harold and Kumar Christmas.
Speaking of Harold and Kumar, John Cho returns for a cameo in American Reunion. Cho’s character in the original American Pie was the first to utter the acronym MILF on the big screen, thus creating one of the most loathsome cultural memes in history. Jennifer Coolidge also returns as the subject of the acronym. Eugene Levy is back as well as Jim’s ever patient, even-forgiving dad.
As this trailer indicates, Jim will need a little fatherly advice when he tries to explain to his son what happens in this trailer.
American Reunion arrives in theaters on April 6th, 2012.
