Amityville: The Awakening Delayed Yet Again, Now Set For Summer 2017 Release

It seems like we're never going to see Amityville: The Awakening. Dimension Films once planned to release the horror flick back in early 2015. It's now late 2016, and the movie has been pushed for a fourth time to June 30th, 2017. At this stage, we wouldn't be surprised if it gets delayed yet again.

It seems like we’re never going to see Amityville: The Awakening. Dimension Films once planned to release the horror flick back in early 2015. It’s now late 2016, and the movie has been pushed for a fourth time to June 30th, 2017. At this stage, we wouldn’t be surprised if it gets delayed yet again.

Although it was shot back in 2014, Amityville: The Awakening has yet to see the fruit of its labors. First set to hit theatres on January 2nd of this year, it then got shifted to April 2016, before being pushed to January 6th, 2017, only to get pushed yet again earlier today. This is not speaking wonders to the film’s quality.

The Weinstein Company did try to wax a positive outcome for the upcoming horror movie, suggesting its newfound summer release date indicates “a strong showing of support,” as it’s placed against Despicable Me 3 and the second weekend of Transformers: The Last Knight. We’d like to believe them, but it’s a safer bet to suggest that the studio is trying to bury this one as quietly as possible, hoping to get chum change from their failure and then move on dutifully.

Starring Jennifer Jason Leigh, Bella Thorne and Cameron Monaghan, Amityville: The Awakening follows a family that moves into a beautiful old house, only to discover that the house is a little more than they bargained for. Sound familiar? So does the delayed release date narrative.

Tell us, are you looking forward to the film despite all the delays, or should we already put it on 2017’s worst of the year list, assuming that’s when it’ll eventually come out?
