An action-packed crime thriller tries to solve a grisly murder by seeing double on Netflix’s global Top 10

Death and despair once again rule the Netflix ranks.

Action thrillers and Netflix subscribers always go hand-in-hand, whether we’re talking a big budget Hollywood blockbuster, a certifiable classic, an egregious bomb, or in this case the Hindi remake of a Tamal original. Embracing the undying adulation the platform’s user base has for the genre, Gumraah has become the latest smash hit on a global scale.

Per FlixPatrol, director Vardhan Ketkar’s tale of doppelgangers and deceit has debuted as the ninth top-viewed movie on the Netflix worldwide charts, a stellar return considering the majority of the titles ahead of it have all been hanging around for a lot longer, and hoovered up plenty of attention during that time.

Aditya Roy Kapur pulls double duty as Arjun Sehgal and Sooraj Rana, two men who look exactly the same but couldn’t have more different motives. Following a grisly murder, the police are on a mission to uncover the culprit responsible, only to get more than they bargained for when their two prime suspects happen to be completely identical. In appearance, anyway.

If that wasn’t enough of a headache to begin with, the revelations begin coming thick and fast as the authorities uncover new details about the case that only serve to muddy the waters further. Part police procedural and part mystery thriller with a dash of face-smashing action thrown into the bargain, Gumraah is one of the rare remakes that justifies its existence; something that’s already been proven by its stellar performance on an all-conquering streaming service like Netflix, where breaking out of the pack is only becoming a harder feat to accomplish.
