Sullivan Stapleton, who you may know from the fantastic Aussie crime pic Animal Kingdom, has earned the role of Themistocles in the 300 prequel, which has a tentative title of 300: Battle Of Artemisia.

Unlike his fellow Animal Kingdom co-stars (Jacki Weaver, Joel Edgerton etc.), Stapleton hasn’t seen much fame or fortune thrown his way for his excellent work in the film.

That’s all about to change though as Variety tells us that Warner Bros. has put their full faith in the still relatively unknown actor. This act of faith likely comes from the fact that Stapleton performed well for the studio in their upcoming film Gangster Squad.

Directed by Noam Murro, very little is known about the 300 prequel, aside from the fact that Eva Green will star. Plot details are being kept under wraps, as are shooting dates. As soon as we hear more though, we’ll let you know.

Personally, I’m thrilled with this news. It’s funny because I was actually re-watching Animal Kingdom the other day and I was wondering when Stapleton would break out. I’ve always been impressed with his performance in the film and I’m very happy to finally see him earning some well deserved recognition.

Let’s hope that the 300 sequel does as well as the original.
