While the first two Annabelle movies journeyed into the title character’s past, film number three takes us back to where we first met her: in the home of paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren. But while Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga are each confirmed to reprise their roles from the Conjuring movies, the focus of this next film will be the young Judy Warren, played by Captain Marvel actress and future Ghostbuster Mckenna Grace.

Alongside her babysitter Mary Ellen – played by Madison Iseman of Jumanji fame – Judy will have to contend with the evil spirts that awaken in her parents’ artifacts room. In other words, the feature is set to live up to its early pitch as the horror version of Night at the Museum.

The film will serve as the directorial debut of Gary Dauberman. A frequent collaborator of producer James Wan, the horror veteran’s writing credits include the first two Annabelle movies and 2017’s It, as well as the upcoming It: Chapter Two and the pilot episode of DC’s Swamp Thing.

Dauberman also served as producer on The Curse of La Llorona, a film that was just confirmed earlier this month to be the next installment in The Conjuring Universe. The Michael Chaves-helmed flick is set for release on April 19th, at which point it’ll only be a couple more months before Annabelle Comes Home hits theaters on June 28th. After that, Judy’s parents will be returning to the spotlight when The Conjuring 3 comes out on September 11th, 2020.
