How Ant-Man And The Wasp Sets Up Captain Marvel

Screen Rant has pieced together a new theory asserting that Ant-Man and the Wasp leaves the door open for Captain Marvel.

Given its proximity to Avengers 4 (and Infinity War!), few would be surprised to learn that Ant-Man and the Wasp contains one or two nods to its MCU brethren.

Turns out that’s very much the case, after we learned that Peyton Reed’s so-hot-right-now sequel shares some connective tissue with the fourth Avengers movie. Not only that, but the leaked mid-credits scene all but confirms that Ant-Man and the Wasp alluded to a major MCU villain during Scott Lang’s most desperate hour. And that’s all we’ll say on the matter, lest we risk divulging too much, too soon.

But over on Screen Rant, there’s a new MCU theory that appears to reveal the ways in which Ant-Man and the Wasp leaves the door open for Captain Marvel to enter the fray. And yes, it has something to do with that nebulous Quantum Realm.

In short, Screen Rant is of the belief that the “time vortex” mentioned during Ant-Man and the Wasp will become the doorway through which Captain Marvel enters Avengers 4 – or, at the very least, joins forces with Scott Lang before the MCU duo ultimately buddy up with the remainder of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.

We know the standalone Captain Marvel movie plans to visit the Quantum Realm at some point or another, so perhaps this is a sure-fire sign that Carol Danvers slips into that aforementioned time vortex, only to emerge in a future rocked by Thanos’ Snap of Doom. It would certainly explain why Brie Larson’s heroine hasn’t aged in the intervening years since her solo debut, but we should caution that this is just another theory for now.

Ant-Man and the Wasp is out as of today, and it’s already beginning to make its mark on the domestic box office.
