For whatever reason, Marvel Cinematic Universe fans have had a habit of turning on the franchise’s most recent theatrical installments whenever they hit Disney Plus, which could ironically open the door for Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania to do the exact opposite.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Thor: Love and Thunder, and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever all debuted to strong early reactions and made big bucks at the box office, but the tides of opinion began to turn from almost the second they were made available to at-home audiences, but the Quantum Realm-set disaster could be looking to mimic the trajectory of the film it joined as the MCU’s worst-reviewed chapter of all-time.

Eternals became the first entry in the superhero saga to end up on the Rotten scale of the equation on the titular aggregation site, where it’s currently tied with Quantumania on a 47 percent approval rating as the pair bring up the rear when it comes to ranking all 31 of the feature-length installments to date.

However, since being added to the Disney Plus library, Eternals has only grown more and more popular, to the extent any news on the future of the MCU that doesn’t involve the immortal aliens tends to cause an outpouring of frustration and fury. While we’re not saying Quantumania is going to be fully reappraised, viewers turning on the profitable movies and then embracing the widely-panned and fiscally ruinous ones would be carrying on a precedent that’s already been set, so it definitely can’t be ruled out.
