Such is the breathless nature of Hollywood filmmaking that just as one movie wraps, another begins to mosey into production.
Take the Marvel Cinematic Universe as an example. Now approaching its 10th anniversary, the lucrative, interconnected franchise has become the crown jewel of Marvel Studios, spawning must-see event movies (Captain America: Civil War) and spellbinding spinoffs (Thor: Ragnarok) as if they’re going out of fashion.
It recently placed a bow on the production of Ant-Man and the Wasp – just as Captain Marvel gears up for its alleged start in January – but not before one final batch of set photos escaped onto the interwebs. First spotted by UK tabloid the Daily Mail, these candid images find Michael Douglas and Michelle Pfeiffer – Hank Pym and Janet van Dyne – enjoying a romantic stroll along the beach. The latter is also seen with flowing grey hair, which may hint at the fate of Pfeiffer’s newcomer.
Have a gander below:
Last seen being whisked into the Quantum Realm, Janet van Dyne was the original Wasp long before her daughter Hope (Evangeline Lilly) donned the famous suit. Her character is of vital importance to the sequel’s story, which purportedly sends Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) and Hope off an a mission to retrieve Janet from the Quantum Realm.
And unless Peyton Reed and Co. are employing flashbacks, this deluge of set photos, which comes just as Ant-Man and the Wasp finishes production, looks to have been pulled from the film’s finale, when Janet van Dyne is home safe and sound.
Said to retain the zany humor and spectacular (and miniature!) visuals that ensured the original became a breakout success, Ant-Man and the Wasp has been positioned as Marvel’s follow-up act to Avengers: Infinity War. That being said, it’s worth keeping in mind that Peyton Reed’s sequel picks up shortly after the events of Civil War – not unlike the wildly successful Spider-Man: Homecoming.
