Ant-Man Director Peyton Reed Is All For A Hank Pym Prequel Movie

It’s often the case when a new MCU movie comes out that the Internet is abuzz with fresh ideas for prequels, spinoffs and carefully crafted sequels. And Marvel’s Ant-Man and the Wasp is no different.

With less than 48 hours to go until the film’s theatrical release here in the States (August 3rd for the UK), Peyton Reed has officially weighed in on the rumors linking Michael Douglas with a Hank Pym prequel movie.

Over on Collider (h/t Heroic Hollywood), Reed was joined by Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige to discuss what lies ahead for Ant-Man and the Wasp, and ultimately how their adventure dovetails with that of Avengers 4. But what of Hank Pym’s MCU future beyond 2019? Well, it seems Peyton Reed is all for the proposed Pym prequel movie, stating that:

I love the glimpses that we see of Hank Pym in action, in the glory days. In both movies, that’s exhilarating to me. I also know how much Michael [Douglas] loves to put on a suit. It’s just one of his favorite things. I love the idea. That’s probably a Kevin [Feige] question, but I love the idea of that the Marvel Universe is set up in a way where you can potentially tell any of these stories, in any time period.

Reed continued:

It was one of the thrills, in the first movie, to have that scene with Hank Pym, to introduce Hank Pym into the MCU and retroactively place him back with Howard Stark and Peggy Carter. I love that because, in the comics, he’s one of the original scientist superheroes. So, who knows what’s next? Nobody knows.

Well, we imagine someone knows, as Kevin Feige and fellow MCU architect Louis D’Esposito are currently holding all the chips. Ant-Man and the Wasp is priority number one for now, but with Phase 4 beginning to loom over the horizon, for Marvel Studios, the opportunities are endless.
