Marvel’s Ant-Man begins shooting in Atlanta, Georgia this week (under the code-name “Bigfoot), and we still know very little about it. That’s in no small part due to the highly controversial exit of fan-favorite director Edgar Wright, who’s been replaced by Yes Man‘s Peyton Reed, and the handful of script changes that proceeded it.

The film stands in the unique position of being a bit separate from the rest of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, because of its central characters being new additions to the franchise with no ties to previous Marvel films. It does, however, offer up some flashback opportunities due to the inclusion of an older Hank Pym, played by Michael Douglas.

From what we know about the film so far, Pym is the original Ant-Man, who passes the torch to Paul Rudd’s character Scott Lang after his former business partner, Darren Cross (the villain Yellowjacket, played by House of CardsCorey Stoll) steals the Ant-Men technology. The majority of the film will likely take place in the present day, but according to a new report from Latino Review, a first-act prologue will leave room for some flashbacks and cameos.

The site claims that early drafts of the script showed Hank Pym meeting with S.H.I.E.L.D. and talking to Howard Stark, Peggy Carter, Arnim Zola, and a young Alexander Pierce (Robert Redford’s character from Captain America: The Winter Soldier).

Because it’s an early draft of the script, the cameos could have been left on the cutting room floor during Adam McKay’s rewrite, or the on-set rewrites being held by Andrew Barrer and Gabriel Ferrari. However, Latino Review states that Marvel wanted these characters in the script, which was part of what forced Edgar Wright off of the production in the first place.
