Ant-Man And The Wasp Trailer Explains Wasp’s Absence From Captain America: Civil War

The last time we saw Ant-Man in Captain America: Civil War, he was risking his freedom to join Team Cap and battle Iron Man and his squad of pro-Sokovia Accords heroes. At the end of the movie, Scott Lang went on the run with his fugitive fellow Avengers - but one hero was missing. After she got the Wasp suit at the end of Ant-Man, where was Hope Van Dyne in all this?

After she got the Wasp suit during the conclusion of Ant-Man, where was Hope Van Dyne in all this?

Well, the very first thing the newly-unveiled trailer for Ant-Man and the Wasp does is to sort out this mystery, courtesy of an interesting exchange between Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly’s insectoid Avengers. The dialogue confirms that Scott never asked Hope for help, though he is curious to know what she would have done if he had.

“I just have one question,” Lang says, over some clips from Civil War. “When Cap needed help if I’d asked you, would you have come?” Hope responds with a good point. If he had asked her to help out, Team Cap might not have been locked up in the Raft by Tony’s team. “I guess we’ll never know,” she replies, “but if you had you’d have never been caught.”

The Ant-Man and the Wasp trailer deals a lot with the fallout of the events of Civil War. Due to Scott Lang going public as Ant-Man for the first time and turning against the law, his friends have had to go on the run. At least that’s not too difficult for Michael Douglas’ Hank Pym, as he can just shrink his skyscraper building down to the size of a suitcase and bring it with him.

Likewise, Ant-Man unveiled his Giant Man ability for the first time in Civil War, but Peyton Reed’s sequel will deal a lot more with the fact that Scott can now shrink and grow to enormous size while battling his enemies. Watch out for that giant Hello Kitty Pez dispenser, random thug!

Ant-Man and the Wasp is set to be the third and final MCU movie coming our way in 2018. Following February’s Black Panther and May’s Avengers: Infinity War, the super-sized sequel will blast into cinemas on July 6th.
