There were a few reasons why a lot of fans thought that this could finally be the week where we learned the official title of Star Wars: Episode IX, but the one that really sent the internet into a flurry of anticipation was a statement on Monday from Anthony Daniels.
Taking to Twitter, the C-3PO actor offered cryptic tease of “something amazing coming towards us – traveling over decades through space and time.” Seeing how the official title for Star Wars: The Last Jedi was announced on January 23rd on the year of its release, many fans feel we’re overdue for an Episode IX title drop, making it only natural that the internet would look at Daniels’ comment and try to put two and two together.
Nonetheless, we’ve yet to find out the name of J.J. Abrams’ upcoming trilogy-closer, and in a more recent tweet, Daniels has offered a little clarification on his prior comment:
“Everyone- except one – is looking the wrong way … But it’s getting closer… Amazing… Doesn’t seem to be the right shape for a movie title or trailer… Can’t see an X or anything… Oh… The signal’s faded… I’m sure it’ll return… What can it be… Stay tuned… I will.”
Of course, if it’s not a title or a trailer that he’s teasing, then the question remains of what exactly Daniels is hyping up, and with a third tweet, the actor seems to have only confused matters further:
“I have to rest, before I fall apart… But wait… Wait… I’m receiving a message from… T…R…A…V…………. Oh… signal fading……. Come back…. the One who got it?”
Okay, so these teases just went from intriguingly cryptic to downright baffling, but if you have any idea of what on earth Daniels could be talking about here, by all means, present your theories.
In any case, though it doesn’t look like Daniels is referring to a title drop, the fans are still hoping that we won’t have to wait too long until the grand unveiling. But regardless of what the coming weeks bring, all will be revealed when Star Wars: Episode IX hits theaters on December 20th, 2019.
