It appears as if director Darren Aronofsky has secured a legendary actor for an equally legendary role in his upcoming biblical tale Noah, according to The Playlist. Early this morning Aronofsky surprised his Twitter followers with news that Sir Anthony Hopkins has joined the cast of his latest film as faith-spreader Methuselah.
A grandfather to famed arc-builder Noah, Methuselah is spared seven full days before a flood is sent to punish mankind for their mounting disobedience. Instead of the flood, he faces a painless death thanks to his righteous servitude to God.
Noah will star Russell Crowe as the titular character along with a slew of other big names including Ray Winstone, Emma Watson, Logan Lerman, Douglas Booth and Jennifer Connelly. Aronofsky’s film is set to cover the entire tale of Noah, while no doubt infusing the story with his own unique method of storytelling.
Role wise, elder characters are nothing new for Hopkins. He recently starred as Norse legend Odin in Marvel’s Thor, bringing elegance and class to the god as only a well-polished actor could. The character of Methuselah will no doubt be another perfect fit for one of today’s most talented actors and he will surely bring a lot to the film. His commanding screen presence and legendary status is the perfect fit for an epic tale like Noah.
Does the addition of Anthony Hopkins excite you? Or were you already going to see this film no matter what? Let us know in the comments.
