As you’ve likely heard by now, James Gunn has been rehired as the director of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, and while you can expect Disney’s latest decision to draw some criticism, the clear consensus among the fans is that the Mouse House was right to change its mind.

What’s more, it looks like Gunn’s MCU peers are also happy to welcome the filmmaker back into the fold. In a recent tweet from Peyton Reed, for instance, the Ant-Man helmsman shared a photo of Gunn at a screening of Ant-Man and the Wasp, along with a message that simply reads:

“Welcome back, James.”

When the news broke in July of last year that Gunn had been fired from Vol. 3 for incendiary tweets, the decision drew condemnation not just from the fans, but also from members of the Marvel camp. The cast of the first two Guardians of the Galaxy films, for example, issued an open letter announcing their support for Gunn. Among the signees was Karen Gillan, who just earlier today took to Twitter with a loaded three-word post: “We are Groot.”

No doubt plenty of Gunn’s other MCU peers will be sharing similarly welcoming statements in the next couple of days. In particular, it’s inevitable that Dave Bautista will have a thing or two to say on the matter, seeing how the Drax actor has consistently remained one of the director’s most vocal defenders. Last year, Bautista even mentioned that he may want to cut ties with Disney, though this latest development will presumably keep him on board.

In any case, it’ll probably be a long wait before Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 completes its journey to theaters, but at least the project is no longer in the limbo that it was for much of last year.
