Jason Momoa in Aquaman

Aquaman Director Reveals Why We Haven’t Seen A Trailer

With fans getting antsy as they wait to see the first Aquaman trailer, James Wan explains why it hasn't been released yet.

The success rate of the DC Extended Universe hasn’t been too impressive so far. Accepting that they do have a lot of fans out there, the general consensus would have it that Wonder Woman is the only big winner in the franchise to date. Warner Bros. will be really hoping to turn that around, then, with the next entry: James Wan’s Aquaman, starring Jason Momoa as the King of Atlantis.

With the pic set to swim into theaters this December, fans are starting to get antsy given that we’ve seen next to nothing from it so far, but that’s about to change. The first trailer is said to be imminent, and while many were expecting it to dock online this weekend, that obviously didn’t happen. And so, with everyone wondering just when we might see it, Wan’s taken to Twitter to clear a few things up.

For starters, he noted that the plan was never to have the first preview drop this weekend, despite what earlier reports said.

Hey friends, I usually do my best to avoid internet noises (especially fabricated distractions) but a teaser-trailer going out this weekend was never in the books — despite what some claim. It’s not because of anyone or any nefarious reason holding it back — IT’S ME.

Next, Wan explained that at the moment, he’s just not ready to share it – simple as that.

I am simply not ready yet to share. This movie is filled to the gills with VFX, and the process is as slow and laborious as a sea-slug! Yes, even shots for the trailers take forever to do, and I refuse to put out anything that might be construed as subpar.

Finally, the director assured us that he’s working hard on the pic, while also making some oceanic puns.

I know it seems like nothing much is brewing above the surface, but I can assure you, we’re working nonstop under the waves (Ps: And yes, I plan to use oceanic puns/references every chance I get).

While it’s nice to have Wan speak up and clear the air, we’re still left with our original question. That being, just when will we finally get to see some footage from Aquaman? Unfortunately, that remains unclear. Some suspect it’ll arrive alongside Avengers: Infinity War, while others fear that WB may hold off until Comic-Con to show it to us. Whatever the case may be, we’ll hopefully get a concrete date for when it’ll drop soon enough and once we do, we’ll be sure to let you know.

Aquaman docks in theaters on December 21st. And for the first time in four years, this Christmas will be completely Star Wars free, as Lucasfilm has angled Solo: A Star Wars Story for release on May 25th. In the meantime, if you still need your fix of the character, you can relive Jason Momoa’s first proper turn as Arthur Curry right now, as Justice League is currently available on Blu-Ray and DVD (order here).
