Having established himself as one of the most important and influential figures in 21st Century horror, seamlessly segued into action-packed blockbusters, and then moved across to the world of superhero cinema, James Wan has more than proven to be a master of all trades.
In fact; as the creator of the highest-grossing horror franchise in history, the highest-grossing Fast & Furious movie, the highest-grossing DC Comics adaptation ever made, and the first director other than James Cameron to helm two features from different properties that exceeded a billion dollars at the box office, he’s pretty much earned the right to do whatever he wants.
With that in mind, don’t rule out Wan getting to make the comic book projects of his dreams one day, even if it would end up being the reboot of one of the genre’s worst-ever efforts. During a Reddit AMA hosted alongside Insidious star and director Patrick Wilson, the filmmaker named Dylan Dog as his dream adaptation, and he wouldn’t have to try too hard to outdo the last one.
Dylan Dog: Dead of Night landed with a thud back in April of 2011, earning less than $6 million at the box office against production costs of $20 million, with even more salt being rubbed into the wounds by way of an embarrassing four percent score on Rotten Tomatoes. There’s even the shared DC connection there, too, seeing as ex-Superman Brandon Routh played the title role, but it’s much better to just pretend as if it never existed and hand the rights over to Wan so we can see what he does with the material.
