Amid rumors that Warner Bros. was in the process of finalizing Aquaman‘s first teaser trailer, James Wan, the film’s director, has weighed in via Instagram to set the record straight.
Two days ago, an Instagram account under the name of Carlos Villalobos posted a shot of what we believed to be the Aquaman edit bay. In it, he alleged that Warner Bros. and James Wan were on the verge of unveiling some footage for what is, essentially, the only DCEU movie slated for release in 2018.
Turns out that’s not the case, as James Wan has taken to Instagram himself (h/t Heroic Hollywood) to debunk any and all rumors, as the person in question is seemingly not affiliated with Aquaman in any shape or form. Tread lightly, folks, because the Internet is dark and full of spoilers. It’s also teeming with false reports and misinformation, so perhaps it’s best to wait until Warner announces something through its official channels before we get carried away?

What we do know, however, is that Warner Bros. has Ready Player One scheduled for release in March, so at this point, we’re inclined to believe that Spielberg’s pop culture bonanza will herald our first true look at James Wan’s DC movie in action.
Aquaman officially swims into theaters on December 21st – a release date it currently shares with Travis Knight’s Transformers spinoff, Bumblebee: The Movie, Holmes & Watson and, as of this week, Alita: Battle Angel, after Robert Rodriguez’s live-action manga movie surrendered its primetime summer release in favor of the festive period.
A six-month delay is a little troubling, of course, so it’ll be interesting to see how it fares against the King of the Seven, who was arguably one of the few saving graces of Justice League.
