So far, the film has taken in an overseas total in the neighborhood of $575 million, making it the biggest DC Comics earner outside of North America since The Dark Knight Rises, which holds the record at $636 million. Better yet, Forbes reports that James Wan’s flick is on its way to beating that overseas figure, ensuring that while the movie may not be faring quite so well domestically, Warner Bros. is starting 2019 in a much stronger place than it was this time a year ago.

In the US and Canada, it’s expected that the movie will end its run as the second-lowest-grossing DCEU feature to date, ahead of only the commercially underwhelming Justice League, but in terms of global total, the film is currently on course to being the highest-grossing entry of the cinematic universe to date, and may even be the first to pass the $1 billion mark.

That being said, the flick still has a fair way to go before it reaches ten figures, with its worldwide total reportedly sitting at $751.8 million. This places the movie ahead of every DCEU entry save for Wonder Woman and Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, which ended their respective theatrical runs at $821.8 million and $873.6 million.

In any case, it’s clear that the pic will be getting the sequel that Warner so desires, though it remains to be seen whether director James Wan feels he’s still got another Aquaman in him. In the meantime, DC is currently gearing up to promote their next major release, with Shazam! scheduled to hit theaters on April 5th, 2019.
