Arnold Schwarzenegger’s comments raise questions over Netflix’s ‘Terminator’ series everyone forgot existed

From the writer of 'The Batman,' no less.

Arnold Schwarzenegger recently delivered a double dose of bad news when he confirmed that while he may be done with The Terminator franchise, the long-running sci-fi series that’s overstayed its welcome by roughly two decades is sure to continue in one form or another.

You’d have thought that going back to the drawing board at the very least would have been on the cards seeing as the legendary property recently suffered through three failed reboots in the space of just 10 years, while not even the long-awaited return of James Cameron could salvage Dark Fate from the box office scrapheap.

Just like its most famous star’s iconic line, then, Terminator will be back. The only real question is the who, what, when, where, and why, which makes it as good a time as any to question what the hell happened to the animated series Netflix announced to be in the works back in February of 2021?

The Batman and Project Power writer Mattson Tomlin was named as showrunner and executive producer, alongside promises that the show would focus on the future war between man and machine, with the Mother/Android director noting almost a year later than the scripts for the eight-episode first season had been completed.

Since then, though, it’s been nothing but radio silence. Given Netflix’s track record for fantasy, nobody should be expecting much from the animated Terminator regardless of the talent involved, never mind the brand’s cratering relevance in the eyes of the general public. That being said, an update would be nice.
