According to The SunScarlett Johansson is being offered $20 million to return for The Avengers 2. If she accepts, which she likely will, she’ll set the record for biggest single film paycheque for an actress.

Following Joss Whedon‘s statements about wanting more females in the sequel, it seems that Marvel wants to ensure they won’t lose their current curvaceous member of The Avengers.

“Scarlett is the hottest star in Hollywood and her inclusion in the sequel is a must. Producers think that as the only lead woman in the film male fans have found her a key ingredient — both for sex and story appeal. She is loved by critics too.

Currently, the record for largest payday for an actress is held by Angelina Jolie, who made roughly $18.9 million for 2010’s The Tourist.

The article also stated that actors Robert Downey Jr, Chris Hemsworth and Jeremy Renner would each receive 50 percent pay increases for the sequel, though their exact salaries were not made public.

Considering how large the budget was for the first film, I can’t even imagine what it will rise to for the sequel. Though considering The Avengers is sitting pretty at $1.5 billion (and it’s still playing in most theatres), I don’t think budget is too much of a concern for the mouse house when it comes to The Avengers 2.

What do you think? Is Scarlett worth the money? Is Disney spending too much on the sequel? Head down to the comments and share your thoughts.
