Well, if Avengers 4 screenwriters Stephen McFeely and Christopher Markus are to have their way, then M.O.D.O.K. will be showing up sooner rather than later. In fact, the peculiar looking villain nearly made it into Infinity War!

Here’s what Markus had to say in a recent chat with Kevin Smith regarding the inclusion that never came to be:

“I’ve wanted to put M.O.D.O.K. in, and it’s very hard to go ‘here’s the supporting character the giant head.’ And then we’re going to get on with the story. We just came to him for information. Like you kind of have to design the whole movie around the guy with the giant head.”

Given the fact that this guy is essentially a giant head sitting in a chair, it’s best that he be firmly established instead of being introduced out of nowhere. Still, it’s easier for moviegoers to swallow the idea of him now that we’ve witnessed the cosmic and mystical sides of the MCU, for you have to admit he’d not have worked so well during the somewhat more grounded days of Phase One.

So, even though the character remains elusive at this current point in time, he’s still on Markus’ bucket list:

“I have love for M.O.D.O.K. and I still think properly done he’d be terrifying. Like you look all the way down the hall and like this huge head comes around the corner and starts coming and…oh, it would be awesome.”

Interestingly enough, M.O.D.O.K. appeared in Iron Man 3: The Official Game, though he was reinterpreted as being the consciousness of Aldrich Killian (the, um, “true” Mandarin) downloaded into a new body. While it’s highly debatable whether this is part of MCU canon, the concept could be revisited in a future movie.

Avengers 4, meanwhile, opens in theaters on May 3rd, 2019.
