Avengers: Endgame Now Less Than $100 Million Away From Beating Avatar’s Box Office Record

As Avengers: Endgame heads into its sixth weekend in theaters, Marvel fans are anxiously waiting to see if it can topple Avatar's world record.

Avengers: Endgame

Having released over a month ago, it’s safe to say the hype surrounding Avengers: Endgame has begun to slow down a bit. While there’s no doubt that we’ll be talking about the latest MCU movie for some time to come, most Marvel fans have shifted their attention to future films, with Spider-Man: Far From Home due out in a few weeks.

However, there’s still plenty of reason to keep your eyes on the most recent Avengers outing. As it enters its sixth weekend in theaters, Endgame is now slightly less than $100 million away from surpassing Avatar as the highest-grossing movie of all time. As of Thursday, May 30th, Marvel’s newest release has grossed just over $2.688 billion, as detailed by Box Office Mojo. With Fox’s epic sci-fi sitting at $2.788 billion, Endgame is less than $100 million from dethroning the reigning champ.

As expected, the weekend gross has been declining ever since it hit theaters on April 26th. While it started out strong with a whopping $357 million domestic run during its first few days, the numbers have been dropping since then. However, a slight rebound on Memorial Day weekend has certainly helped, and if Endgame manages to stay in theaters for another month or two, it’s pretty likely it’ll catch up to Avatar

If there’s one record that’s unlikely to be broken though, it’s the one set by Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Back in 2015, the seventh episode in the long-running space opera series managed to rake in over $936 million at the domestic box office, thanks to the franchise’s popularity in North America.

If you haven’t seen AvengersEndgame by now (seriously, how is that possible?), there’s still plenty of time to catch it in theaters. And if you have seen it, be sure to let us know in the comments below if you think it’ll be able to dethrone Avatar at the box office.
