Thanks to the film's recent re-release, Avengers: Endgame is now closing in on Avatar's total worldwide gross, though it still has a bit to go.

In a final attempt to push past Avatar’s box office record, Marvel Studios re-released Avengers: Endgame into theaters this weekend with several minutes of new content. And so far at least, the approach seems to be paying off.

As we reported yesterday, the Avengers: Infinity War sequel brought in $1.8 million domestically on Friday, which took its North American total up to $837 million. Though not a massive number, it was significant step up from the previous Friday, which saw Endgame earn only $530,906. The strong performance continued on throughout the weekend as well, with the pic seeing respectable figures on Saturday and expected to close out Sunday on a similarly impressive note.

In fact, analysts now estimate that Endgame will stand at $2.761 billion by the time Monday morning rolls around, which would put it roughly $26 million behind Avatar’s $2.788 billion figure. All things considered, that’s not exactly an enormous gap, but given Endgame’s current pace at the box office, it still might be some time before we know for sure if it’ll catch up to James Cameron’s sci-fi epic or not.

With all that said, it’s not like Marvel’s going to be too upset even if Endgame doesn’t reach the top. They’ve already made a boatload of cash from the film and it’ll go down in history as one of the biggest and most successful movies of all-time. Still, it’d be quite an accomplishment and one that would be well deserved after over ten years of delivering hit after hit.

Tell us, though, do you think Avengers: Endgame will be able to snatch the crown from Avatar? Or has it run out of too much steam already? As always, be sure to share your thoughts with us down below.
